On 28 January 2023, the Royal Thai Consulate-General, Samitivej Hospital Group, and Asoke Skin Hospital hosted the Thai Medical Seminar 2023 at the Yashwantrao Chavan Centre in Mumbai. Professional physicians from prominent Thai hospitals, Dr. Pudit Suraprasit, MD, and Dr. Veerananmongkol, MD, provided presentations and consultations on the modern treatments for beauty and skin. Also Professor Dr. Suradej Hongeng, MD, shared the insights on advanced cell and gene therapy to cure thalassemia and blood cancer.

Dr. Suradej and his research team recently developed gene therapy techniques, resulting in the world's first successful gene treatment to permanently cure thalassemia. This approach of hematopoietic stem cell transplantation employs stem cells from persons other than relatives, with a cure and survival rate of more than 95%.

The first Thai Medical Seminar 2023, organised by the Royal Thai Consulate-General, was a resounding success. Specialist doctors, patients, and stakeholders were present during both seminars and consultations. With the success of this event, the Consulate-General will be able to further promote medical advancements in Thailand, continue to seek collaboration with India, and establish a medical network between Thailand and India.
