Royal Thai Consulate-General in Mumbai in association with various partners hosted the first ever Thai silk fashion show in Mumbai.

On 7 September 2013, Mr. Nat Pinyowattanacheep, Consul-General, welcomed guests to “Thai Night in Mumbai”.  The ballroom at Four Seasons Hotel was decorated with a collection of beautiful Thai silk cloth acquired from many parts across Thailand.

Mr. Nathaphant Laksanawong, a young Thai designer, brought beautiful eight Thai traditional dresses and ten modern evening gowns to showcase Thai silk dresses on the runway.  The elegance of Thai silk was matched by gold jewellery from Thailand.

Indian models perfectly fit in Thai national silk dresses reminded of Indo-Thai cultural ties. These Thai tradition dresses are mostly worn at formal or royal functions.  Three lovely sets of Thai cultural dances, despite their uniqueness, sent out a warm message of acquaintance to Indian audience.

Another highlight was Thai food and fresh Thai fruits. Thai foods are recognised as one of the top cuisines in the world given the layers of the five tastes combined in one bite. The famous Phad Thai (stir-fried vermicelli), Som Tam (spicy papaya salad) and Tom Yum (spicy soup) were the favourites. Thai food is also well-known for its healthiness. The sweetness of Thai fruits: longans, rambutans, and mangosteens, and Thai desserts were an excellent soother after enjoying Thai spiciness.

The event well reflected the warmth of Thais’ hospitality and the liveliness of Thailand whether it is day or night.
